Intra-net, Extra-net and Deliverables

Rasa Design Studio started out in web designing sites and web-based programs that were never meant to see the three W's. Cognos, Deloitte & Touche, Bain & Co., NikonSchool, CellExchange... each of these projects forced Rasa Design Studio to take a closer look at the World Wide Web as a medium for conducting off-web business and presenting off-web information.

Non-Retail Business Sites are similar to eCommerce sites in that they depend on achieving certain, quantifiable objectives. The intangible, "We just want a web site" is something we quickly discourage. The following is a list of web sites that do not fall in the category of eCommerce because the products offered are not shipped or downloadable. We reserve another page for businesses in the 'Service' sector.

CognosCognos.com: Cognos is the world leader in business intelligence (BI) and performance management solutions and has been around as a corporation since the late 1960's. Cognos contacted Rasa Design Studio to design an Intra-net Sales Channel solution that would allow their sales force to present products and information dynamically to Congos's clients.

The information had to be laid out in such a way that could convey a lot of information in a visually organized way, paying attention to the way that people's eyes will scan graphics from right to left, but text from left to right. There was no way to know what or how much information would be on any given page, so the layout had to be very flexible and the navigation had to allow for quick drill-downs with minimal training.

deloitteDeloitte & Touche (also referred to as Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, and branded as Deloitte.) is one of the Big Four auditors, along with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, and KPMG.

According to the firm's website as of 2007, Deloitte has approximately 150,000 professionals at work in over 140 countries, delivering audit, tax, consulting, and financial advisory services. Rasa Design Studio was hired to design a dynamic, Flash, internal site for corporate consumption in order to distribute a multi-tiered marketing plan to the Boston corporate offices. The content of the marketing plan was a well kept secret, so we had to design the site to allow the content to be picked up as external text files.... without knowing what the content would be. Further, we had to devise a secure system so that lower-tiered users would not have access to the parts of the plan that were limited to upper management viewing.

Internal sites are fun because there is complete control over the means of delivery and the way in which an internal site will be viewed. No compromises have to be made over incompatible browsers, quirky platforms, player versions, etc. The only audience is the user: Search Engines need not apply.
