The how and why of eCommerce and osCommerce for businesses
No, this isn't just another SEO-motivated blog on a designer's site. Nor is it a collection of pithy content articles wrapped around keywords generated for our own web site promotion needs. When we redesigned the Rasa Design Studio site, one of the critical objectives we wanted to overcome was to close the gap between eCommerce web development and eCommerce web ownership. A lot of our own proposal strategy involved educating clients (and sometimes being educated by clients) on what was needed in the design, and also what was needed after the design was launched.
Too much of the proposal process was wasted overcoming requests for 'Flash Intro' pages and arguing for features we knew were critical for the success of shopping cart web sites. Too many times, we spent time creating web sites we knew were going to fail because the client was insisting on features that would maybe make the web site look cool, but were going to cripple SEO or conversion. Also, (we admit), we were not always anticipating features that businesses knew they needed, so our default "Tableless CSS osCommerce" application was constantly being modified with the same features over and over again... costing our clients time and money.
This section of our site, then, is a resource for our clients... and a dialog, so that it will also be useful for us to provide the best products and services possible to our clients. The goal is to provide what we know to work and to solicit from our clients and visitors the information we need, not just to make great web sites, but successful businesses.
