eBusiness Web Site - Non-retail

The business non-retail web site is more than just a glorified, 4-color brochure. Even though visitors may not purchase an item on your site directly, there is still the need for the site to concentrate on 'conversion' as its primary goal. Whether a strong call to action leads to an e-mail, phone call, an on-site visit, sales leads or any other objective, the site needs to be entirely focussed on that.

Our business web sites are unique to our clients' businesses, but there are certain features shared by all.

  • XHTML / CSS Tableless design: We don't use nested tables to design your site. All styles and layouts are based on a clean, web standard compliant XHTML structure and Cascading Style Sheets. This reduces file sizes, allows us to order text hierarchically for Google and provide elegant, cross-browser designs. Elsewhere on our site, we explain the SEO benefits of tableless design.
  • Admin Control of content: You don't need to hire a designer every time you want to update your 'About Us' page. Simply log in and type. Adding new pages is just as easy: Log in, create a name for your page, write the content, click submit. The page is created, links are updated and the content shows up embedded into the design of the site.
  • Landing Page Manager: One-way, incoming links to your site should not lead to your index page if you want to score high in Google's Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). Instead, you want to create a landing page with text content specific to a particular keyword phrase (called a keyword string). If the text of the link, the title of the page, the headline text and content all match, the page shows up much higher on Google. The Landing Page Manager allows you to create these pages ad infinitum. All marketing campaigns, adwords, and other references to your site should lead to these landing pages.
  • A / B Split Testing: This is an optional feature that allows you to create two versions of a single page, directing 50% of people to one page or the other to measure the effects and conversion of changes you want to make on your site.
  • No Flash, No gimmicks: I'll say it a million times on this site: Flash does not improve conversion and it usually hurts both conversion and your Google indexing. People don't like gimmicks and things that fly across the screen. They don't like 'hit counters' and stock tickers and weather reports. Our use of graphic images is limited to promoting conversion and when we use images, the technique we employ allows Google to see text.
  • Header Tag Control: Google doesn't read META Keyword and Description tags, but it does read the TITLE tag and other engines do read the meta tags. Our admins allow you to create custom keywords and descriptions on a page-by-page level, but we also mirror that information as H1, H2 and paragraph text as part of the background logo graphic. With CSS, we make that text invisible to visitors, but visible to Google.
