Case Study: Terabit Consulting

This is an example of a project in which we had to rapidly scale up from a, at the time, one man freelance firm to a large group in a matter of days… and then do it 4 times a year for this one project.

1018 printed pages with over 388 maps and 300 charts, Terabit Consulting published a quarterly report on every single underwater cable in the world. Every single cable listed came complete with a map showing where the cable ran and we hand-drew every single one of them.

This project taught us the importance of measuring small amounts of time spent on each task because every second spent on one cable was multiplied by 300 or a thousand.

Three versions of the finished report were published every quarter: Print, PDF, HTML… the last two on CD and the report was sold for $7,000 – $9,000 a piece… sort of made us wonder if we were in the wrong business.
