Boston, Massachusetts Rasa Design Studio is the home of Tableless CSS osCommerce

Tableless XHTML / CSS osCommerceWhile osCommerce Classic has, almost from the beginning of eCommerce, been the best buy in eCommerce applications, it has lagged far behind in out-of-the-box Search Engine Optimization and has failed to keep pace with the best in coding standards. Rasa Design Studio’s Tableless XHTML / CSS osCommerce answers to those issues and more.

The advantage to using Tableless XHTML / CSS osCommerce is that you still get the advantage of a ton of contributions and community support from the osCommerce community: Enough of the code is left intact for contributions to work with only slight modifications that most competent PHP programmers can do with very little thought. The SEO advantages, though, are proven on this site and we’re continuing to test and monitor performance with our demo site and client sites.

Version 2.0 is new. We have the first 2 (and maybe a third) clients to use this under development to be launched this month. The first 10 clients will get constant support and proactive bug-support for free as well as 3 months marketing and visitor / conversion tracking. Our goal is to get clients with highly competitive keywords (10M+ competing pages in Google) so that we can prove once and for all that our rewrite not only works, but kicks the pants off any other eCommerce option currently available in the Open Source community.

By far the biggest change to the application was the removal of table tags and the rewrite of the “box” class, but we didn’t stop there. We incorporated several contributions into the core of the application including a rewrite of “Header Tag Controller” to add keyword, description and title content into the BODY and not just the HEAD. The Search Results and Category-based Product Listing were combined with the Sub-Category listings so that designs could be created all at once. Several other issues were also improved:

  • PHP 4, PHP 5, mySQL 4, mySQL 5 are all supported.
  • Safe_Mode On and Register Globals OFF.
  • Easy Populate
  • Dynamic Information Pages for Admin control of info pages such as “about us”
  • SEO URL’s
  • Etc.

The rewrites mean that contributions have to be slightly modified before they can be used and this is especially true with contributions that use the infoBox class. Other contributions are being added as well as two new features that are not part of any contribution at all: A/B Split Testing Manager and Landing Page Manager. These last features will be released with v.2.2 and we’ll install the features into any Tableless osCommerce site that was bought after January 1, 2010 for free.
